IBM Hursley Junior Cricket Section

IBM Hursley Cricket Club have recently started up a junior section for children between the ages of 6 - 9 years of age. We have been coaching on Sunday afternoons and are going to be going outdoors in April. The aim is to enter the Winchester & District under 9 League this season where the children will get to play games against other clubs. If that is not possible, we will continue to coach the children with the aim of entering a league next season.

A not so trivial, trivia!

This Friday ( 27th March ) was a new experience for me because today was the first time i've taken part in the Hursley Club Trivia Nights. As part of an effort to make sure i understand each of the many events and groups we have at the club, going to the quiz was a new and pleasant experience. When i arrived to the club at about 7:30 i was really pleased to the see the main bar full with people eating and drinking to the back-drop of the new lights and furnishings. The staff looked a little run off their feet but as food and drink seemed to keep coming everyone seemed to be having a good time. As we tucked into our burgers and curries after a game of pool the evening was warming up and teams slowly made their way into the Jim Hayes Hall.

30 minutes later and it all kicked off. This evening we had 11 teams, including a committee team, and i believe that there were at least 4 regular teams that are normally present. The quiz takes the form of 10 rounds including a picture and music round. Each round has 10 questions created by our very own Krissie and Patrick. As each round went by, the more i understood why people came along for the evening. There was a good atmosphere in the hall, a quiet buzz that can sometimes be missing from the club. All the teams were taking the questions seriously and yet still had a smile and a laugh on their face as the quiz master joked and teased his way through the evening. I was also surprised by the questions. There are obviously some very cleaver people around who know a lot of information and yet there was also a nice range of questions that meant even us ( as a lowly committee member ! ) could even manage to get a reasonable amount of questions right.

As the evening drew to a close it was clear that we were (hopefully) better looking after the club than participating in the quiz and that its because of events like this evening that make the club a very special place and something we don't want to loose. Like any other events and activities, the club is always welcome to have support and input from any of its members to improve improve what we do. I'd like to thank those that do put a lot of time into making sure these Trivia nights happen and think its fair to say that the committee won't be contending for the Trivia league title based on Friday's performance! :)

Bletchley Park Visit - 13th March 2009
